Pala donates $125,000 to Bonsall schools

Fallbrook Village News 3.31.06

PALA — The Pala Band of Mission Indians is donating $125,000 to the Bonsall Union School District, with the gift to primarily fund the Vivian Banks Charter School, as one of the top two schools in San Diego County. The contribution will be integral to sustaining the Vivian Banks Charter School’s academic growth by offsetting personnel costs and the general operation of the district-born establishment.

Of the Pala Band’s continuing commitment to supporting the community, Pala Band Chairman Robert Smith said, “We felt compelled to once again contribute to the good work of the Bonsall Union School District. This community deserves good schools as a sound investment in our children’s future.”

The Vivian Banks Charter School was founded more than 10 years ago, housed in a building donated by the Roman Catholic Bishop of San Diego. The school was funded by the Pala Band of Mission Indians and the Bonsall Union District. In starting a new neighborhood school, the district made a programmatic and financial commitment for additional services exceeding the existing Bonsall Elementary School curriculum.
