PALA — The Pala Band of Mission Indians has donated $100,000 to help with transportation costs at two local school districts.

Fallbrook Union High School District and the Bonsall Union School District will each receive $50,000.

The money will help with transportation costs in rural communities, such as Pala, throughout North County to ensure students maintain access to bus service for school.

“We are pleased to help the Bonsall Union and Fallbrook Union High School Districts continue the rural bus service for our local students,” Robert Smith, Chairman of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, said in a statement. “Budgets cuts continue to be a reality for many organizations, but education needs to be a priority. This contribution will help ensure access to a high quality education for our region’s future leaders.”

These donations come six months after a $140,000 donation from Pala to save other programs slated for elimination at the Bonsall Union School District.

The Pala Tribe has donated more than $500,000 over the past four years to local school districts. (619) 293-1859
