PALA — The Pala Band of Mission Indians has donated $50,000 to the Fallbrook Union High School District and the same amount to the Bonsall Union School District to assist with transportation costs in rural communities.

“Without a reliable transportation system it is much harder for children in rural areas to get to school and take advantage of all the resources on campus,” said Pala Chairman Robert Smith in a news release issued Tuesday.

“This donation will help ensure access to our region’s schools for all students. We are pleased to help the Bonsall Union and Fallbrook Union High school districts continue the rural bus service for our local students and future leaders.”

Fallbrook Superintendent Dale Mitchell praised the donation on Tuesday. “We’re elated with their generosity,” Mitchell said. “It’s very much appreciated. They have continued to be very generous with their support.”

The tribe made a similar donation to both districts last year, Mitchell said.

The Pala tribe has donated more than $650,000 over the past five years to local school districts.
