April 24, 2013

PALA, CA – The Pala Band of Mission Indians announced today that it has donated $50,000 to the Bonsall Union School District and $50,000 to the Fallbrook High School District.

The money will be used to assist with transportation costs in rural communities throughout northern San Diego County such as Pala to ensure students maintain access to bus service for school.

“Without a reliable transportation system it is much harder for children in rural areas to get to school and take advantage of all the resources on campus,” said Robert Smith, Chairman of the Pala Band of Mission Indians. “This donation will help ensure access to our region’s schools for all students. We are pleased to help the Bonsall Union and Fallbrook Union High school districts continue the rural bus service for our local students and future leaders.”

The Pala Tribe has donated over $650,000 over the past five years to local school districts.

The Pala Band of Mission Indians is a federally recognized tribe whose reservation is located along the Palomar Mountain range approximately 30 miles northeast of San Diego. The majority of the over 900 tribal members live on the 12,000-acre reservation, established for Cupeño and Luiseño Indians, who consider themselves to be one proud people - Pala.
