Plant Survey & Seed Collection
The Pala Environmental Department and San Diego Botanic Garden announce the Plant Survey & Seed Collection Workshop on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Pala Admin Building.
Workshop
A one-day workshop to learn about plant surveys, native plant identification, seed collection and propagation, pollinator health, and planting. This will include a field component with hiking to look at native plants in the local habitat, as well as hands-on activities and a series of presentations.
Survey
The Pala Environmental Department and collaborative partner organizations are co-hosting a plant workshop at the Pala Reservation, including a vegetation survey to identify native plants and invasive plant species at and around Pala Rey Youth Campground. Complementing the survey, participating organizations will host a series of demonstrations and discussions of plant identification, conserving and growing plants, and related activities for participating Pala Tribal members, staff, and other invited attendees.
The plant survey and demonstrations will be an important step in gathering more information about invasive species that are present and need to be removed, and teaching about conservation horticulture for native plant species. Specialists from the Global Conservation Consortium for Oak (GCCO), the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County, San Diego Botanic Garden, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, and other local partners will be on site to lend their skills and lead different aspects of the workshops.
