Keith Bowman
Garden Specialist
Keith Bowman is the Garden Specialist and serves as the manager of Pala’s community garden: Pala Atáxam Pemtew’naan’a (Pala People’s Garden) and has worked in the Pala Environmental Department since 2024.
Keith is responsible for the care and maintenance of the garden space. Pala Atáxam Pemtew’naan’a is funded by a multitude of generous grants and donations, and also benefits from the work of generous volunteers from Pala and from partner organizations.
Keith’s responsibilities include plant care (planting, watering, fertilizing/amending soil, thinning, pruning and seed collecting as well as identifying pests/plant issues and addressing them); developing and maintaining the greenhouse, where he starts seeds and cuttings; maintaining the entrances, paths, trash cans and seating areas; and working with PED’s partner organizations, such as the San Diego Botanic Garden, on shared projects and community outreach.
Keith is also responsible for designing stickers for PED to raise awareness of important native plants, animals, and pollinator insects, including their names in both English and Cupeño.
